att and dlink router
I am using a motorola 2210 dsl router /modem combo from phone company with a dlink dir-655.I have the 2210 in bridged mode and am using the dlink to assign dhcp and whatever else.Im using windows 7 with the latest wincap(4.1.2).It finds my console and i can join games, but my problem is that my ping will just go off the board when playing!!??One minute it may be 68 then the next over 4000??ive looked at the tuts and cant get heads or tales.Does anybody have a similair setup or have an idea of what i need to do to solve the problem??Thanks!!!

Re: att and dlink router
Your problem is most likely caused by other internet software running on your pc or network. Examples: file sharing, youtube, etc...
I didn't check your router specifications, but it may have a QOS and set xbc as low priority.

Re: att and dlink router
You finally got it working with the wireless connection or what? Usually wireless isn't really that stable at times so try the wired connection you previously used.

Re: att and dlink router
Before you buy anything, take your xbox to a friends house. Confirm that the problem is your pc / network.

Re: att and dlink router
well we brought the laptop to my brothers and he has cable internet.we tried it on his network and was doing the same thing...so to me that was an indication that the laptop was the culprit...?we then hooked his desktop back up and everything worked as it should..and it has done this with two different xboxes..just have to break down and buy the desktop when funds are available..thanks for you guys help!!!my brothers xbconnect and xbox work fine on his network and i said earlier as soon as we put the laptop inplace it went berserk.

Re: att and dlink router
That is good troubleshooting, at least you narrowed it down to the component with the issue. Keep your eye out for the root cause, whether it be the ethernet card or some rogue software.

As for the rogue software I would suggest try using safe mode on your PC and then running XBConnect.
Also did a little research on the ethernet card and a few tests you can do to see if everything checks out well...
http://www.duxcw.com/faq/network/testnic.htm
Also try downloading a large file.. maybe 3gb and have it to where it doesn't resume once disconnect somehow that way you would know if there is some sort of connection issue.

Re: att and dlink router
Since it worked at your brother's house with your brother's pc, but did not work at your house with your brother's pc, kinda obvious where the problem lies.
Jump on over to the dslreports forums. They can help you identify if your ISP is the cause and what you need to do to fix the issue.
Scroll through the forum list here, hopefully your ISP has a specific section available or even direct support.
http://www.dslreports.com/forums/all
They will probably ask you for linequality info. Register on the dslreports website and login, then visit this page and get the URL of the page with your results.
